The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)

This sequel really hurts, another victim to Hollywood.

Presentation:

The film takes the premise of the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and turns it into basically an action film with the framework of the original. The film looks good just nowhere close to Fincher's version. Claire Foy tries her best but doesn't deliver the badass nuanced hacker we fell in love with. The chemistry between the new cast particularly her and Mikael is nonexistant with Mikael feeling particularly invisible in his role.

Story:

The story has an interesting premise going back to the roots of Lisbeth and the source of her trauma, but for this introspective topic why cheapen it with so many action sequences? It's ends up feeling too edgy and bland with weaksauce performances, though it was fun to expand the world of the elite hacker's reputation. Michael Bay might as well have directed this one, a complete 180 in the franchise.

Conclusion:

Don't give into your curiosity, this one hurts if you loved the original. If you really want more, try out the Swedish version. Nearly 1 chili due to the incomparable Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but given 2 when viewed in isolation.
