Howlโs Moving Castle (2004)
Even Miyazaki can feel romantic.
Presentation:
Although this isnโt the only romantic Miyazaki film, I believe is it is one of his sweetest and loveliest. The visuals are memorable with interesting characters borrowing the castle in the sky motif from previous films. But what makes this film particularly memorable and romantic is the soundtrack. โMerry Go Round of Lifeโ is one of the most beautiful pieces made by Joe Hirashi only competing with his score from Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away. The chemistry between the two leads stands out with the charm of Howl equally complemented by Sophieโs determination. Although the story is somewhat hard to follow focusing on cinematic adventures, it does utilize the tried and true break the spell of a witch narrative that doesnโt fail to provide a wholesome experience.
Conclusion:
Miyazaki is known for being a bit cynical so itโs so lovely to have a film that is more light, though not in a clichรฉ Disney way. This could be enjoyed by the family or adults, audiences alike should fall in love with the characters, world and score.
