Titane (2021)
The year's weirdest film.
Presentation:
Body horror in it's most extreme form of our generation, this is one of the most obscene premises suggesting this is a film focusing on themes and symbolism. However, I'm not exactly sure what it's trying to say other than shock and awe.
Analysis:
So a woman is impregnated by having sex with a car. Even when I watched this, I still couldn't piece together what the vision was for this script - is it a take on trauma? self-destruction? There's sex violence and deceit, my biggest take away is there is some link to shame, as she also attempts to hide her pregnancy from her new father figure, whom are a source of abuse and neglect in this film causing her metal surgery to begin with. But what it all means is open to interpretation and ultimately a metaphor that bears little resemblance to the feelings it attempts to address.
Conclusion:
An experimental and captivating story with less under the trunk than it suggests. Still hypnotic but requires further development in execution.
