Trainspotting (1996)
Drugs and lightning in the bottle.
Presentation:
There are few films that have the boldness Danny Boyle attempts at here. The cinematography is impressively creative with music video technique but for the silver screen. Ewan McGregor nails his role balancing the endearing yet sleazy delinquent. The dialogue borders on stylish and incomprehensible, but I found it to enhance the script. Music is also wonderfully utilized along with great pop references. The film is witty with one particularly unexpected scene that should have you burst out loud. In some ways Iโd describe this film as Euphoria in 90s Scotland, but I think that would be an insult to the magic captured by this film.
Conclusion:
This film is straight fun start to finish without a single dull moment. Just like the highs in the film, itโs a constant hit of happiness that youโll never want to conclude. This might be one of the best drug addiction films, which although donโt wholly capture the spiraling addiction like Requiem for a Dream, it certainly is the most entertaining. Very refreshing even for 2024, youโll want to maximize your first viewing. If British films were ever to invade Hollywood cinema, this should be it. The charm captured by European delinquents rivals only that of Skins and still adds something new to the band of misfits genre.
