Django Unchained (2012)
Glorious gunslinging in this awesome Tarantino western.
Presentation:
Tarantino often attempts to rewrite history in his films with gratuitous and cathartic violence. This formula is perfect for this revenge story of a slave looking to fight his way to freedom and love. Itβs just as fun as his other film and never once takes the potentially politically solemn topic too seriously. The use of fast long zooms, anamorphic and over the top violence make for a gleeful showdown. Django doesnβt miss, and the same for Tarantino.
Conclusion:
It seems like Tarantino never disappoints in any of his films. Django Unchained feels different in that it really feels triumphant. For just a few hours, it feels like we, the people, can finally heal from all the crimes of slavery. Christoph Waltz also hits a homerun and Leonardo DiCaprio plays a villain we never expect him to pull off. All in all a fun film, entertainment in the fullest sense. Cause itβs fun, Jan!
