If the black and white didn't do it, the film creates a nostalgic noir feeling aptly capturing the memories and feelings of these loosely related episodic stories. There's a reason this film became viral. The cinematography in this film is not about optimal lighting or precision, it's supposed to be hazy and messy, just like the memory it attempts to evoke. The narration and different POVs create a sense of group memory that makes these distant memories feel familiar.

The film's story is quirky, charming, offbeat, segregated, very off the tried and true path. There's a lot to gain inspiration from as it is a bit of a pioneer blazing the way for future experimental films through camera technique and movement rather than visual beauty. But the atmosphere and characters feel sexy and vibrant in contrast with the grungy environment. You might find the seductive hong kong hustle and bustle to hypnotize you anyway.
