Hotel Artemis (2018)
Is stylish world building enough to make a movie?
Presentation:
A forgettable story, forgettable cast, but unforgettable universe. This hotel managed by Jodie Foster is a haven for the criminal underground just like The Continental in the John Wick franchise. The ambience and art deco design of the hotel has its own complete world building that makes you enthralled by anything that happens inside. The setting is quite dark with moody lighting, with fascinating regulations that make this hotel a character on its own. But thatβs literally the only reason to watch this film as nothing else is particularly well done.
Conclusion:
This film could literally be a spin off of the John Wick series and no one would question it. But style and setting alone arenβt a reason to go and watch a movie. Unless you wanted to see some pretty pictures, then maybe this could be worthwhile. Some moments of laughter, but ultimately a pointless finale.

If there was ever the case for why classic films are more cinematic.
