Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
One of the most accessible films to immerse yourself in India.
Presentation:
The film has a fast pace, exciting story by Danny Boyle with a very compelling lead by Dev Patel. The film utilizes an episodic plot structure starting off with Patel's character competing in the Indian version of the game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. The questions reflect important aspects revisiting his past. This appears to have somewhat influenced future film Lion. Like Indian films, there is often a underlying theme of desperation, poverty, ambition. But this is perhaps one of the best in gritty style with melodramatic elements that are forgiven due to an overall satisfying plot.
Conclusion:
A great film, one of the more touching and novel films back in 2008 that will make you care about the characters and India as a whole.
