Hunger (2023)

A vegan burger film that doesnโ€™t know what it wants to be.

Presentation:

The cinematography is quite beautiful. Slick lighting and great sets with food macro. It has the appearance of a great modern film

Story:

The film simply does not know what it wants to be. It attempts to be a subversive thematic film like The Menu but fails in most metrics. The antagonist is compelling, but the motivations in the end follow no rhyme nor reason. Was he her mentor or enemy? Why did she work so hard to ultimately give up in the end for a cheap happy ending? Is the poaching of animals really so repulsive to warrant a job change when your boss abused your colleagues to retaliation? The decisions made by the characters betray what had developed in the film and although there are a few meaningful metaphors, it is not enough to not disappoint you. It trying to recapture lightning in the bottle of Bad Genius, but this bottle should have stayed sealed.

Conclusion:

A Netflix checklist thriller that i wish I could love to support Thai production. But this is ultimately a 5 star dish that will leave you disappointed and more hungry. A dessert with no entrรฉ.
