It Follows (2014)

An indie horror that is better than a lot of high budget ones.

Presentation:

The film looks decent, lighting is simple but mostly standard/naturalistic. Some of the characters are not particularly charismatic but the overall tone doesn't disappoint.

Story:

Supernatural element, horror, sex, gore, the formula rarely disappoints for a flick. It's an interesting storytelling device to try to dissuade carefree sex, which is the main theme of this film. The monster is very intriguing, tangible, interactible and possibly defeatable. There are rules and physics the monster also abides by making this one of the more interesting supernatural monsters in film.

Conclusion:

The film doesn't waste your time and uses effective scares and builds tension through slow burns. It's a great premise perfectly executed for what its budget and story.
