Train To Busan (2016)
Korean zombies infect western cinema.
Presentation:
An extremely popular zombie film that catapulted Korean movies into the spotlight, Train to Busan is a good film that has been overhyped as one of the best zombie films of all time. It’s a decent film, but for having the reputation of the best is quite surprising when the film doesn’t offer anything new to the genre. Sure, if this is your first zombie movie, it will likely be a great experience as it encapsulate all the themes of zombie movies. You have the fall of humanity, desperation, morality, sacrifice, apocalypse, all while on a speeding rail. It’s neat and has no faults, a perfectly fine movie, but I don’t think it has anything particularly distinctive that you would see from other Korean twists.
Conclusion:
A great zombie film if you are new to the genre, but there are simply better zombie stories out there. The train is the most interesting aspect of this movie that does provide some differentiation, but it’s not enough to warrant it’s grandiose reputation. Just meh to me.
