Smile (2022)

I'm not smiling.

Presentation:

The film looks good enough, modern clean horror aesthetics. The film isn't particularly scary with the trailer really being the climax for the entire film. Some soundtrack and transitions are noteworthy.

Story:

The film goes all in on one symbol: trauma. However I don't think the vessel for this metaphor was delivered well. I don't really like the connection the film makes, which is the core for the entire film and thus ultimately collapses. It's actually kinda boring with pretty meaningless scares and the boyfriend is utterly frustrating. What is the purpose of his existence if he is not going to be involved or care about the main character?

Conclusion:

Save for a few creeps and dutch angles, theres not much this film offers to the genre. Thereโ€™s an intriguing opening shot, but i felt nothing else.
