Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)
A satisfying progression of violence.
Presentation:
The realistic setting makes the film so unassuming until you reach the middle of the movie where the true plot and film structure unfolds. The film is gratuitously violent with comic book style gore and blood that'll make you jeer or cheer. Vince Vaughn revives his career with a satisfying journey to the depths of prison, progressing toward the final boss to do what he needs to do. It's a bit silly but sheer entertainment as after each level is cleared the princess is always in another castle. It's a simple story of revenge and duty, but effective.
Conclusion:
You may be taken aback by the gore, but just like Drive, the visceral determination will keep you hooked and entertained.
