The King’s Speech (2010)
Did I stutter?
Presentation:
A drama completely about King George VI’s stammer as he takes control of the British empire in 1936. If this doesn’t already compel you, then maybe you should skip this one. For everyone else, this is an immersive period piece that takes you back into time of British glory and culture for those that love historical movies. Beautiful and dedicated as it may be, I think the mature presentation will only be appealing to adults that want a serious biography. Colin Firth is a fantastic Oscar worthy actor, but I’m not sure him talking for 2 hours will be universally appealing.
Conclusion:
My biggest criticism with this film is that for 2 hours of talking and stuttering, there’s not much being said to entertain but rather inform. It somehow felt more like a documentary lesson than something designed to entertain. So it should be very clear who this film is meant for, just don’t expect any Hollywood theatrics or entertainment value.
