Ferrari (2023)

A slow crossing of the finish line.

Presentation:

Shot on Red, a racing drama of Ferrari's origins led by good performances by Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz. The cinematography is nice but all over the place, jarring changes in shutter speed, poor transitions between natural and artificial lighting, the film tries a bit too hard to paint light unfitting of a film of this nature, however if you can't tell, you may still find the production quality high.

Story:

The main points of tension were a bit forced, the film could be reduced to a cheating husband drama with a climatic racing finish. However, the road is quite bumpy with arguable inconsistent pacing. Based on a true story, the puzzle pieces seem to not have a clear direction of focus, meandering from one arc to the next. It is biographical in nature, but it simply rushes to reenact scene after scene without realizing a cohesive picture.

Conclusion:

Good actors in a mediocre movie. The performances are the saving grace. This film lacks the inspiration of Ford vs Ferrari, Rush or other racing films, but there might be a few nice moments in this bumpy ride.
