A peak modern thriller with deceptively stunning visuals.

Presentation:

Deakins and Villenueve team up for one of his best films with the war on the Mexico drug trade. There are many elements at play making this film remarkable, the unorthodox structure, riveting story, subversive twist and moral ambiguity that never holds your hand prompting you to question characters throughout the film. Tense, exciting and suspenseful even on second, third and fourth viewings.

Conclusion:

A very re-watchable film with one of the most compelling characters in modern cinema. Although Villenueve wants to do Sci-fi, i think his intelligence shines for darker substantial films like this.
