Watchmen (2009)
Could have been one of the most significant comic book films of all time.
Presentation:
Following off proof of concept of The Dark Knight, the comic book thriller provides a much darker toned film with much bigger scale, gravitas and dark noir style. The dialogue may seem pretentious to some, but appropriate for gritty setting of an alternative cold war universe where nuclear tensions are high. If brooding monologue of skeptical antisocial detective doesn't intrigue you, this will not be up your alley.
Conclusion:
The film was far ahead of it's time with a meta commentary that precedes films like Oppenheimer with more abstract symbolism. Lot of conspiracy and morally nuanced characters that would be applauded today from shows like The Boys, but never reached critical acclaim back then. Thought provoking for those interested in ends justifying the means.
