AlphaGo (2017)
The only AI documentary that might leave a glimmer of hope.
Summary:
It’s hard to see the optimism of AI. The great human replacement seems inevitable in this captivating story of the development of AlphaGo, an AI that attempts to beat the world’s best Go player. There are many films where you want to root for the protagonist, but there are very few that make you want to root for humanity. This documentary is very special in that there is extreme conflict yet no real villain, which ends up stirring up existential feelings of mankind vs itself. It never exaggerates the reality of the situation because the source material doesn’t need to. But you might find that it still holds your hand in the darkness of pessimism, which might be more relevant than ever at the dawn of the artificial intelligence age.
