Booksmart (2019)
Superbad, but with girls.
Presentation:
Olivia Wilde direct debuts a comedy that is modern and colorful following two best friends trying to have a good time before college. The two girls are likable and make for a great dynamic and balance. The film clearly wants to piggyback on the magic of Superbad and succeeds in some ways.
Story:
The film could have very easily incorporated obnoxious commentary, but Olivia Wilde reserves this right and creates a foremost entertaining film. Humor is actually quite tight and silly and you don't have an egregious or lame jokes. There is also a particularly awesome drug scene aptly performed. The relationship between the girls feel genuine and you really are entertained from start to finish.
Conclusion:
A funny comedy that you may have missed because of no-name leads and poor marketing. It's not just funny but well made with a meaningful adventure. It should bring you back to your high school shenanigans.
