Crazy Stupid Love (2011)
A romcom even men should enjoy.
Presentation:
I would definitely not consider myself a romance guy and that makes it especially true for romantic comedies. However, this is one of the few films of this genre I felt was worth covering because of its modern appeal. Steve Carell is just as disarmingly likable as his performance in 40 Year Old Virgin, Ryan Gosling is βliterally usβ, and the female leads are also great complements with great chemistry from Emma Stone and Julianne Moore. Although it covers multiple storylines to keep things fresh and relatable for all audiences, it eventually circles back for a more satisfying ending in comparison to Love Actually. Itβs funny, relatable, entertaining and never obnoxiously cheesy.
Conclusion:
Crazy stupid, or stupid love? Perhaps both, but the film never takes itself seriously enough to make you contemplate the faults of what should be a good time for both men and women. In the end, a romcom needs to make you laugh and want to ship the couples together. If you agree, thereβs a lot to love for this one. And even if you donβt we still got a ton of Ryan Gosling memes out of this.
