The Nice Guys (2016)

An adult action comedy where the comedy is an afterthought.

Presentation:

Shot on anamorphic, hollywood crime noir detective vibes in the nostalgic 70s with hippies and porn industry.

Conclusion:

Not really funny if you see this as a comedy, a weird take on a detective action story. Takes notes from Naked Gun but much more serious in tone. A jumbalaya of marketing gimmicks that markets toward older people, yet somehow feels immature in tone leading to some cringe moments and at best a few grins. Not particularly funny, perhaps due to the serious tone of the story. It's hard to say if it's the fault of Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. Gosling is generally a funny actor, but Crowe sucks the comedy due to his solemn character. Weird dynamic will an inappropriate little girl providing the moral direction and lightness to the film.
