House of Gucci (2021)
Nothing more, nothing less than you should expect.
Presentation:
Ridley Scott is really a chameleon director. He has such vast range telling stories of all kind. But sort of the like the Nicholas Cage of directing, this movie of his feels just feels like a freelance job without passion. Adam Driver somehow takes a backseat and Lady Gaga steals the show. Nothing wrong visually.
Story:
Lady Gaga is truly impressive, but loses screen time as the movie progresses, which is lamentable. It's really quite impressive even if you don't want to accept how a singer can just burst into acting so confidently. The semi biographical drama has some gossipy fun but the climax is robbed by a lack of character development for Gaga. This aspect of the story should be the heart of the film and was regrettably not properly built up. It's still mindless fun, they also do Tom Ford pretty dirty.
Conclusion:
A fun biographic drama of the scandalous Gucci story. With such material it would be hard to make it boring. The mechanics of the film have a strong foundation, but for the sake of representing as many unbiased key moments, the film ends up skimming through the climax.

An overly long film befitting of its title.
